Trinidad HistoryVilla of the Santísima Trinidad was founded on 1514 by the expeditionary Diego Vela'zquez, being between the 7 first villas created by the Spaniards in the island. In 1544 a great number of neighbors of the villa enlisted the army of Courteous Hernán, in the occasion of the conquest of Mexico, causing that the city was declared officially depopulated. It was not until around 1585 that I am reanimated the Spanish population in the zone again. The development of the villa was seen partially interrupted by the frequent pirate assaults between the centuries XVII and XVIII, done that Trinidad also fought nonsingle with its own military services but with the creation of a system of fleets for the protection of such incursions in its coasts. As well, these economic damages were compensated by the illegal sale of the exquisite Tobacco Trinitario, the contraband of salty meats, cattle and skins with the neighboring ports of Jamaica as well as other islands of the Caribbean. On the other hand, Trinidad was the first port of entrance to the island of African slaves, and several expensive products like drinks, critalerías, sets of dishes and spices that were not obtained by vias legal in Cuba. Parallelly to the Haitian anti-slavery revolution of Toussan Louverture, the Real black Seat is created in the villa to facilitate the import of African slaves and the commercial interchanges with Jamaica are increased, country inserted in the English industrial development; these facts contributed to the fast trinitario development, being located in just a short time between the main zones of sugar production of the Caribbean, being created thus, a city of luxuries and palaces. Towards 1755 the city counts on a majestic economy, 264 blocks, 32 streets, 25 talents of azucar, 55 cattle properties, 104 tobacco fertile valleys and 3 you will tile are fehaciente test of it. It is for that reason that from 1797 and to 1850 the villa becomes Possession of the Government, with political and military jurisdiction on the ample central territory of the island. Between the 1857 and 1866 country one lives on its worse crises. This, bound to the anti-slavery rebellions and the War of the 10 Years untied in 1868, caused a decline in the economic development of the villa. Like result, the rich landowners were little by little leaving the city, that did not know the train until 1919 and it was not connected by means of highways with the rest of the country until the decade of the 50, being for always, stopped in the time. |
